In the fall of the year 2000, motivated by his desire to unite listeners through a deeply profound and immediate emotional experience, Brandon Martin began to focus on writing music through unexplored methods. When presented with this early collection of songs Mark Guzylak-Shergold, a bass player and Martin's childhood friend, was compelled to join in the process. Experimenting with strong rhythmic juxtaposition and unique structures, they expanded the layers of meaning that were deeply imbedded in the powerful musical expressions: this was the beginning of Escape Surprise. A short while later Martin and Guzylak-Shergold were joined by Jessica Adel, an acting colleague of Martin's. Her approach to vocal performance was primal and its presence in the songs was no longer a matter of choice, but of necessity. Most recently the band has been graced with the performance of Corey Voisin, whose responsive, natural drumming technique has fused the band's music with a fundamental drive, allowing it to achieve unexplored dynamics of expression. Escape Surprise will continue their pursuits honestly and openly in the hopes that their message of oneness will reach all who listen.
